John Alexander

As KBO’s co-founder, John works with the Board of Directors, Research Advisor, and Research & Monitoring and Education & Outreach Team Directors overseeing all aspects of the organization's efforts.

John has been working to integrate bird conservation and land management in the Klamath-Siskiyou Bioregion since 1992.  John earned his Bachelor of Science at the Evergreen State College, his Master’s Degree at Southern Oregon University, and his PhD at Prescott College.  John’s expertise includes conducting monitoring and research efforts using standard bird and habitat sampling techniques; working with land managers to apply scientific results to integrating bird conservation objectives within land management programs; and developing tools for teaching about scientific processes and results to students, community members, and resource management professionals of all ages.

Working domestically and internationally to advance bird and habitat conservation, John serves on the Avian Knowledge Alliance (as co-Chair), North American Banding Council (as Chair), Western Bird Banding Association Board of Directors, and American Bird Conservation Initiative State of the Birds Committee and Monitoring Sub-committee.  He is an active participant with the Partners in Flight (PIF) serving as co-Chair of the National Steering Committee and as a prticipant with the Science Committee, Western Working Group, Oregon Washington PIF Chapter, and  California Partners in Flight Executive Steering Committee.  John also helps to coordinate the  Landbird Monitoring Network of the Americas and Klamath Bird Monitoring Network, and woks in support of the Western Hemisphere Banding Network.
