Songbirds, Science and Outdoor Schools

ssos_2Klamath Bird Observatory’s newest K-12 educational program, Songbirds, Science, and Outdoor Schools emerged out of a partnership with the Siskiyou Field Institute, located at the Deer Creek Center in Selma, Oregon. Songbirds, Science and Outdoor Schools serves 4th and 5th grade students in Josephine County, providing science enrichment and outdoor education opportunities. The program incorporates multiple classroom visits and all-day field trips to the Deer Creek Center where students meet biologists, learn about mist-netting and bird banding, see wild birds in the hand, and investigate the local forest and riparian area. The program integrates a comprehensive evaluation with student pre and post surveys as well as teacher surveys and interviews to ensure continued improvement.
