Comprehensive education kits developed by Klamath Bird Observatory for the Basin and Range Birding Trail, Klamath Basin Birding Trail, Crater Lake National Park, and Lava Beds National Monument have reached thousands of students.
The Basin and Range Birding Trail Education Kit was developed by Klamath Bird Observatory, in partnership with The River Center, to benefit Modoc County educators and community members. The education kit is intended to aid teachers in teaching science concepts and skills through place-based nature education. Students learn through connecting with their local birds and habitats.
The kit also includes many teaching aids and hands-on resources as well as a curriculum binder. To check out the kit (2 available) including this curriculum, many resources, and equipment, contact The River Center: 530-230-5085.
Klamath Basin Birding Trail Education Kits were first created in 2006 with support from Klamath Wingwatchers. A second and more comprehensive version was published in 2009 with the support of Klamath Wingwatchers and funded by the Klamath County Commissioners through Title III Forest Education funds. The kits are designed to benefit teachers, non-formal educators, and community members teaching about science and conservation using the relationship between birds and their habitats. Lessons are designed to the unique habitats of the Klamath Basin, Crater Lake National Park, and Lava Beds National Monument and aligned to Oregon and California science standards.
Klamath Basin Birding Trail Education Kits are available for a free check out from OSU Klamath Basin Research and Extension Center or by calling 541-883-7131.
