Monitoring is an essential component of habitat restoration. By monitoring changes in bird communities, we can determine whether restoration efforts have successfully reached their intended ecological conditions. KBO has studies that track the effectiveness of restoration in oak woodlands and riparian habitats. Our restoration monitoring includes two different private properties, within or adjacent to the Cascade Siskiyou National Monument. These sites have been recently fenced to exclude cattle grazing and riparian planting within the restoration sites has occurred. Since 1997 we have been monitoring restoration the ecological effects of the BLM’s Wood River Wetland restoration project. The data collected at this i mportant area, and as part of our broad-scale long-term monitoring program in the Upper Klamath Basin, will continue to provide valuable information about the effectiveness of wetland rehabilitation efforts at Wood River.
