In 2008, KBO completed a pilot monitoring project for secretive marsh birds in eastern Oregon in accord with the North American Marsh Bird Monitoring Protocol for Secretive Marsh Birds.  Efforts in Oregon were aligned with other western states in progress toward Coordinated Bird Monitoring.  Local volunteers were recruited to increase the sustainability of long-term monitoring.  Through this effort, a baseline inventory of secretive marsh birds throughout eastern Oregon was completed and contributed to the National Marsh Bird Database.
